Beat the heat with sweet summer coolers at Resorts World Manila

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

It’s shaping up to be another long and hot summer. With the islands exposed to daily heat indexes hovering close to 40 degrees Celsius, the El Niño phenomenon’s full effect is bearing down and everyone is feeling the heat.

Dry spell or drought, the season is on pace to posting record-setting numbers as summer reaches its height. With temperatures soaring to intense levels once again, it certainly helps to know that there are many ways to beat the heat and one is by simply enjoying Resorts World Manila’s (RWM) excellent cold treats and coolers.

Nothing beats the heat quite like a classic. Remington Hotel’s signature café RBar serves up a favorite Filipino refresher with a glass of ice-cold Sago’t Gulaman. RBar mixes portions of sago, grass jelly, and shaved ice doused in homemade syrup to create a cold, brain freeze inducing, dark amber elixir that downright hits the spot. Pair it with any of RBar’s gourmet sandwiches and you’ve got yourself a match made in merienda heaven.

Speaking of classics, summer in the Philippines would not be complete without the island’s signature treats. Mediterranean-inspired restaurant The Terrace serves up a thirst quencher with its Pinoy summer sweet trio of Mais Con Hielo, Banana Con Hielo, and an all-out Halo-Halo mix. Enjoy these coolers as you bask in The Terrace’s al fresco dining area beside Maxims Hotel’s cool infinity pool.

Guests can likewise chill out with classy coolers at coffee bar and lounge Café Maxims offering fresh flavors to fight off the heat. Aside from serving special brews, the café also offers cold treats including blends of coffee, chocolate, and fruit smoothies. Café Maxims also stocks up on cold and creamy gelatos which come in an array of irresistible flavors. From pistachio to buko pandan, cappuccino to salted caramel, and tiramisu to hazelnut Nutella, Café Maxims guarantees scoop after decadent scoop.

Health aficionados can also stop over and fill up at Café Maxims with a serving of refreshing mixed fruits and vegetable juice.  Pick out and combine ingredients from a wealth of in-season fruits like apples, mangos, bananas, oranges and watermelons as well as fresh vegetables like beetroots, carrots, cucumbers, celery, and more.

Hot nights can get pretty cold as RWM’s entertainment hub Bar 360 and piano lounge Bar 180 brings the feel of the summer breeze with its line of cocktail creations available only this April. Go tropical at Bar 360 with every sip of Buko Mojito loaded with shots of Bacardi and Malibu rum mixed with fresh coconut. Chance upon a sweet escape with Bar 180’s Blue Sea Fizz filled up with fruit juices and coconut rum, stirred together with a dash of blue caracao.

Drinks and desserts do not guarantee a cold summer but a healthy dose certainly adds some much needed sweet thrills to last the season.
