Resorts World Manila in stride with Prudence Foundation for SAFE STEPS campaign

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Recognizing the importance of disseminating information about disaster preparedness and awareness particularly in a calamity-prone country like the Philippines, Resorts World Manila (RWM) recently partnered with Prudence Foundation for the public service program SAFE STEPS.

Developed by Prudence Foundation, the charitable arm of Prudential Corporation Asia, and in partnership with the National Geographic Channel (NatGeo), SAFE STEPS is a long-term multi-platform program comprised of infographic collaterals including a series of educational videos produced by NatGeo featuring Program Ambassador Manny Pacquiao who gives instructions and key steps on how to survive natural disasters.

“In our eight years, we’ve been involved in the seven most major disasters in Asia,” shared Prudence Foundation Executive Director Marc-Xavier Fancy. “In all those experiences from being on the ground, we noticed that the average person doesn’t actually know what to do in a disaster,” he added.

The signed memorandum of agreement between Prudence Foundation and RWM makes the country’s premier integrated resort an official distributor and licensee of the educational materials for the campaign intended to be displayed during special events, movie screenings, on LED screens, electronic billboards, online websites, and printed materials.

“The challenge is how to get the information to the people who need it the most. You want to raise campaign awareness and supplement the capacity building efforts of the local governments,” relayed Fancy.

With prominent TV brand NatGeo behind the information and education campaign, SAFE STEPS currently reaches communities all over Asia through 13 FOX International channels via cable.

After partnering with the national and local governments and non-government organizations, SAFE STEPS have now sought the assistance of private companies including RWM, which according to Fancy makes the messaging more powerful.

“RWM having 19,000 people come through their doors daily is brilliant--that means 19,000 people a day could have access to seeing SAFE STEPS information via RWM’s community service and out of the goodness of their hearts,” said Fancy.

Present during the signing aside from Fancy were RWM Chief Operating Officer Stephen Reilly, RWM Corporate Communications Director Owen Cammayo, and PRU Life UK Chief Marketing Officer and Sr. Vice President Belle S. Tiongco.

The SAFE STEPS partnership with Prudence Foundation is part of RWM’s corporate social responsibility efforts. Learn more about RWM by visiting www.rwmanila.com or call the Tourist/Visitors Hotline at (632) 908-8833.
